Pot O’Gold Sale Concludes

The 60th Pot O’Gold Sale was held on Saturday evening, November 4, in Louisville, Ky., as part of the All American Junior Jersey Show activities. A huge thanks to Cow’s Match Jersey Blend, Land O’Lakes Animal Milk Products for continuing to support our Jersey youth!

A great night of family bonding and new and seasoned Jersey youth experiencing the thrill of a sale, 32 genomic tested heifers paraded through the ring at the Pot O’Gold Sale. They averaged $2959.

Top selling heifer was consigned by Her-Man Jerseys and Sunny Day Farm, Chester, S.C. Lot 136 is Her-Man/SDF Balin Beck-P, selling for $7500 to Camille Herrera of Hilmar, Ca.

Second high selling heifer, and another exchange of coasts, was Lot 107, Primus Kwynn Haven-ET. She was consigned by Jerseyland Sires, Turlock, Ca., and was purchased by Lydia Chittenden, Schodack Landing, N.Y., for $5200.

The 60th Pot O’Gold Sale will take place in Louisville, Ky., on Saturday, November 4 at 4:30 p.m. (EDT). The event is a part of the many Junior Jersey Breeder events taking place at the All American Jersey Show that day. This year’s sale is presented by Cow’s Match Jersey Blend, Land O’Lakes Animal Milk Products Co., and will take place in the Newmarket Hall location. The sale will also be broadcast on JerseyAuctionLive.com for LIVE viewing and bidding.

RULES for the sale: Because the Pot O’Gold Sale is a Junior Jersey Breeder event, there are a few rules for purchasing. The full list can be seen in the 2017 POG Catalog.

  • Animals in the Pot O’Gold Sale can only be purchased by juniors between the ages of 7 and 20 (inclusive) on January 1 of the sale year, who reside in the United States or Canada. A junior may only purchase one POG calf per contest year.
  • This is a production contest, and the awards for the 2017 Pot O’Gold Sale will be presented in 2020. Again, information on records and testing eligibility are in the 2017 POG Catalog

Take a look through the sale line-up to add your next Jersey in your herd, build a solid base of genomics, production, type and genetics! All heifers are genomic tested, with some having preliminary numbers announced at the sale. (Pan of sale line-up)

The 2017 All American Sale is the 65th anniversary for the prestigious event, held during the All American Jersey Show events and festivities in Louisville, Ky. The sale is Sunday, November 5, 4:30 p.m. (EST) and is in the West Hall of the Kentucky Expo Center. As tradition shows, cow families, great type, notable production, and everything every Jersey breeder could want is part of this sale!

Fall Sales are approaching


Cataloging for the Southeast Jersey Invitational (formerly Dixie Invitational) will begin on THURSDAY, August 10. Consignments, especially any for the tie-up portion, must be turned in promptly.
In this year’s sale, we will be having a tie-up portion featuring approximately 30 head of high quality show prospects and genomic animals. The other portion of the sale will be commercial cattle that will be housed as we have done in the past. Milk cows will be in one group and the heifers divided and housed by age and pregnancy status. Thank you to Her-Man Jerseys and Sunny Day Farm for hosting the sale.

As manager of the sale, JMS wishes to invite you to participate in this volume production sale. The deadline for consignments to the Mid-Atlantic Fall Jersey Classic sale is August 16. The New York and New England area sales were held in the spring only for the 2017 sale season. This early fall sale will create a place to market quality Jersey heifers from and within the eastern United States. Thank you to the Craig Rhein Family for hosting this sale.

DAIRYLAND PROTEIN SALE
Cap off the Jersey event-filled week in Janesville with the 15th Dairyland Protein Sale, on Friday, October 6 at 11:00 a.m. (CDT). Please consider supporting this sale with good quality animals that you want to market.
The deadline for the Top of the World and Dairyland Protein Sale catalogs is August 22.

Please consider consigning to this well attended fall sale with quality, production Jerseys that you want to market. Cheese plants in Ohio are strongly encouraging their suppliers to increase components, thus creating greater demand for Jersey cattle. The deadline for the Ohio Fall Sale catalog is September 9.

POT O’ GOLD GUIDELINES
Heifers must be born between July 1, 2016 and March 15, 2017. All heifers in the Pot O’Gold (POG) sale will be genotyped, and their dams must be scored at least VG-80%. AJCA will pay for three genomic samples to be nominated for the POG Sale. Samples need to be received at the lab before August 1st to meet the September genomic evaluation deadline and to be in the catalog.

Pot O’Gold Sale Concludes

pogtile16The Pot O’Gold Sale is part of a packed full, eventful junior day at the All American Jersey event in Louisville, Ky. Tonight’s sale featured 31 lots of genotyped heifers for junior Jersey breeders to add to their herds. Each lot purchased has a percentage of her selling price put towards the “Pot O’Gold” moneys awarded at the end of this group of heifers’ first lactation.

On 31 head, the sale averaged $4,103.23. Bidding was lively between the crowd in Newmarket Hall and the internet viewers at home.

Lot 10P – Ahlem Harris Havs 48332 {5}-ET was consigned to this youth sale by Ahlem Farms Partnership in Hilmar, Calif. Thaine, Bradin and Caylee Bjelland of Gillett, Wis., invested in this great heifer for $10,400.

Another California supporter, Sunwest Jersey Dairy, consigned the second high selling heifer, Lot 25P – Sunwest Nitro Kilowatt V1837. She travel back to the same area of the country, to Camille Herrera’s home in Hilmar. Camille purchased this Pot O’Gold heifer for $7,500.

A third California Jersey breeder, Jim Quist, consigned the third high selling heifer of the evening. Lot 1P – Jars of Clay Daybreak Bryna II-ET sold with a donated share of Jars of Clay Boaz-ET, a syndicated bull in this year’s All American Sale. For $7,000 Robert Graves of Dundas, Ill., invested in a well known cow family!

Collin Wussow of Cecil, Wis., was the winning bidder on D&E Harris Violet 16167 {5}-ET from D&E Jerseys in Dalhart, Texas. The final bid on this heifer was $6,700.
