The Top of the World Jersey Sale was held in Madison, Wis., as the conclusion to the Jersey breed events at World Dairy Expo. Strong breezes kept the sale pavilion well ventilated, but the crowd filled the seats and watched the parade of cattle cross the auction ring.
The sale had 28 lots sell, including two choices and an embryo lot. The overall average was $2080. The 25 live Registered Jerseys averaged $2192.
The high selling lot is a proven show winner already this week, winning the Senior Yearling class in the International Jersey Show and also grabbing the Reserve Junior Champion banner for the Junior show. Lot 22, Wildweed Primero Lightning, was consigned by Michael and Megan Moede and Katie Ledvica of Algoma, Wis., and was purchased by Buster Goff of Hobbs, N.M., for $5200.
Next high seller was Woodmohr Be True, VG-88% from Woodmohr Jerseys, Bloomer, Wis. She sold to Starwischer Jerseys, Ethan Starkey, Mechanicsburg, Ohio, for $4100.
Close on “Be True’s” heels was the 10th place Jr. 3-year-old of the 2018 International Jersey Show, Ratliff Premier Demi, E-90%. From Ron and Christy Ratliff, Garnett, Ks., this young cow sold to Misty Meadow Dairy in Tillamook, Ore., for $4000.
