Ohio Fall Production Sale – In Pictures

The Ohio Fall Production Sale will be on Saturday, October 20 in Wooster, Ohio at the Wayne County Fairgrounds. The auction will begin around 11:00 a.m. (EDT). There are over 200 head selling, including milking and dry cows, bred heifers of all trimesters, and close to 100 open heifers from breeding age to September calves.

Dairyland Protein Sale Visuals

 

The Dairyland Protein Sale features just shy of 170 head of Registered Jerseys, mostly cows and bred heifers. The sale will be held in Janesville, Wis., at the Rock County 4-H Fairgrounds on Friday, October 5, beginning at 11:00 a.m. (CDT).

Top of the World Sale Blows to a Close

The Top of the World Jersey Sale was held in Madison, Wis., as the conclusion to the Jersey breed events at World Dairy Expo. Strong breezes kept the sale pavilion well ventilated, but the crowd filled the seats and watched the parade of cattle cross the auction ring.

The sale had 28 lots sell, including two choices and an embryo lot. The overall average was $2080. The 25 live Registered Jerseys averaged $2192.

The high selling lot is a proven show winner already this week, winning the Senior Yearling class in the International Jersey Show and also grabbing the Reserve Junior Champion banner for the Junior show. Lot 22, Wildweed Primero Lightning, was consigned by Michael and Megan Moede and Katie Ledvica of Algoma, Wis., and was purchased by Buster Goff of Hobbs, N.M., for $5200.

 

Next high seller was Woodmohr Be True, VG-88% from Woodmohr Jerseys, Bloomer, Wis. She sold to Starwischer Jerseys, Ethan Starkey, Mechanicsburg, Ohio, for $4100.

 

Close on “Be True’s” heels was the 10th place Jr. 3-year-old of the 2018 International Jersey Show, Ratliff Premier Demi, E-90%. From Ron and Christy Ratliff, Garnett, Ks., this young cow sold to Misty Meadow Dairy in Tillamook, Ore., for $4000.

Mid-Atlantic Fall Classic Jersey Sale Wrap-Up

The Mid-Atlantic Fall Classic Jersey Sale wrapped up on Friday, September 21 in Pine Grove, Pa., at Craig Rhein and Family’s “sale pavilion”, at their home. A total of 198 head went through the ring, ranging in age from springing heifers to weaned calves. The average was $840.81.

A total of 13 buyers were from Canada, NY, OH, and PA.

It was overlooked in the first draft of the wrap-up post, but Lot 128 was the top selling lot of the Mid-Atlantic Sale, topping off at $1700. She was consigned by Highland Farms of Cornish, Maine, and sold to Entwistle Bros., Frankfort, N.Y.

Lot 9 was the next high selling heifer of the day at $1650. From Mapleline / Kokoski in Hadley, Mass., this springing heifer sold to Mapleview Dairy, LLC, Madrid, N.Y. Her herd mate, Lot 12, sold to Entwistle Bros., in Frankfort, N.Y., for $1600. She was a third trimester bred heifer.

Other consignments selling for over $1500 include Lot 1 from William Pearl, Barnet, Vt., and Lots 10, 13 & 15 from Mapleline / Kokoski.

Over 25 breeders consigned to the sale from their registered Jersey herds in the Northeast and Mid-Atlantic areas, with seven states represented.

The Mid-Atlantic Fall Jersey Classic Sale will be held at the home of Craig Rhein and family, FRIDAY, September 21, starting at 11:00 a.m. (EDT). The Pine Grove, Pa., location is hosting just under 200 head of springing heifers down to spring 2018 calves, consigned from Jersey breeders around the Northeast and Mid-Atlantic region.
