The JMS Fall Season continues in the next two weeks with…

the Ohio Fall Production Sale on October 18, 2014 at the Wayne Co. Fairgrounds in Wooster, Ohio.

AND the Prairieland Fall Production Sale will be held in West Union, Iowa at the Fayette County Fairgrounds on October 25, 2014.

The October Jersey Bid Consignment auction will be held from October 20 – 28. We are accepting consignments of cattle, embryos and semen NOW!

The Pot O’Gold and All American Sales will be part of the annual Jersey festivities in Louisville, Ky., again this year.
The Pot O’Gold Sale – Sponsored by Cow’s Match, Land O’Lakes – will be on November 8, 2014 at 4:30 p.m.
The All American Sale will be on November 9, 2014 at 4:30 p.m.

The Jersey Marketing Service Fall Calendar is already starting to fill. Between hay, straw and other cropping, and hopefully some picnics and fairs with your families, be sure to take inventory of your Jersey herd! Sales will be around the United States again this fall, so keep checking the calendar to see if you can consign and / or buy replacement cattle at any of the JMS sales.

**SALES HAVE BEEN ADDED!** CATALOG DEADLINES are approaching quickly, so be sure to contact JMS or your AJCA/NAJ Area Representative to have your consignments included! The most urgent sales to submit consignments for are the Ohio Fall Production Sale, Prairieland Fall Sale, Top of the World, All American and Pot O’Gold sales. We are looking for quality genomic – production – type cattle for these sales!

Do keep in mind that ALL Sales, including Top of the World, Pot O’Gold and All American, consignments need to be turned in by summer’s end because of the details that accompany the cataloging and show entries that come with some of the events. Pot O’Gold consignments must be genomic tested, and samples need to reach the lab by the August 1 deadline to be included. AJCA will pay for 3 samples, as long as one of those is entered in the sale.

Each regional or state sale will be looking to wrap up their consignment list within a few weeks also, so be sure to contact your AJCA / NAJ Area Representative to have your cattle included in the sale closest to you!

Jersey Bid monthly consignment sales will continue as always, the third week of each month.

Ohio Fall Production Sale Wrap-up

Ohio Fall Sale

It was a very cold, rainy day in Wooster, Ohio for the 2013 Ohio Fall Production Sale but the barn was warm from our great crowd. We sold 194 head that grossed $169,540 which gave us an average of $873.92. I signed up 42 buyers from OH, PA, CO, NE, IN & WI. The high selling lot was #2, consigned by Philip Myers, Louisville, OH and purchased by Jason Cast, Beaver Crossing, NE for $2,800. Second highest lot was #39, consigned by Maple Hill Farm, Glenford, OH and was purchased by Vantress Jerseys, Xenia, OH for $2,200. The third highest selling lot was #70, consigned by the Scott Family, Malta, OH and was purchased by Sam, Angela & George Colpetzer, Greenville, PA for $2,000.

The volume buyer was the Colpetzer Family, PA with the purchase of 52 head.

The average on the cows was $1,021.76

Average for 1^st trimester bred heifers was $726.43

Average for 2^nd trimester bred heifers was $978.75

Average for 3^rd trimester bred heifers was $1,276.70

Open Yearlings averaged $481.09

10-12 month old heifers averaged $494.00

7-9 month old heifers averaged $447.78

4-6 month old heifers averaged $402.62

1-3 month old heifers averaged $241.67

The breeding age “Action” bull out of Arethusa First Prize Vienna, EX-91%, which was added Lot #219, consigned by Kari Michalovich, Lakeville, OH was the last animal to sell and it was well received. Lake-Point Vegas Action sold to the Colpetzer Family, PA for $1,700.
