Jersey Youth Fund Benefits from NHS

The 61st National Heifer Sale was held Thursday evening as part of the AJCA – NAJ Annual Meetings and 150th Anniversary celebration. Scenic Valley Farm, West Salem, Ohio, was the setting for the event. Each heifer going through the ring contributes 10% of their sale to the National Jersey Youth Fund.

The 2018 edition of National Heifer Sale saw 41 Lots of choices, embryos and live heifers go through the auction block, with an average of $7190.

The top two high selling lots broke records for high selling Jerseys in this sale!

The high seller was Lot 2, JX Pine-Tree Disco Paris 1696 {5}-ET, from Matthew Steiner and Pine-Tree Dairy, Marshallville, OH. Lively bidding from a packed crowd and an active internet pushed the heifer’s value to $67,500. She was successfully purchased by ABS Global, DeForest, Wis.

The second high selling lot was a choice from Faria Brothers Dairies in Dumas, Tx. Again, lively bidding pushed the choice of three heifers to $51,000, with Lot H, JX Faria Brothers Usainbolt Jamaica {4}, being the selected heifer. ST Genetics, Navasota, Tx,  was the winning bidder on this valuable heifer.

Lot 12, JX Dupat Craze 18104 {5}-ET, was consigned to the National Heifer Sale by Wickstrom Jersey Farms Inc., Hilmar, Ca. She was the 3rd high selling lot of the night, going to ST Genetics for $18,200.

The sale will be Thursday, June 28, 2018 at 6:00 p.m. (EDT) at Scenic Valley Farm in West Salem, Ohio. This year’s sale will be a live sale, with all lots being lead though the ring, with live broadcast and bidding on JerseyAuctionLive.com.

If you are attending the sale and would like to partake in the dinner, tickets are available at the door for $25.

We are also taking consignment nominations for National Heifer Sale, to be held in conjunction with the AJCA-NAJ Annual Meetings / 150th Anniversary and the World Conference. The meetings will be in Canton, Ohio and the sale will be nearby on THURSDAY, JUNE 26 @ 7:00 p.m. (EDT). Heifers will be on site and will be sold through the sale ring.

60th National Heifer Sale in Keystone State


The 60th National Heifer Sale was held in Gettysburg, Penna., on Saturday, June 24. While all heifers sold from the ballroom, via video, over 40 consignments were available to be seen in person in a tent next to the hotel. Hotel guests and staff also delighted in getting to see cattle up close, for many a first time experience!

A total of 57 lots sold on the sale, not including two donation lots, and averaged $3210.

The high seller of the sale was from Misty Meadow Dairy of Tillamook, Ore. JX MM GSP 22583 {4} had lively bidding from the ballroom and from the internet, with several interested parties. She has a GJPI  of 191, a GJUI of 29.2, and many AI companies interested. ST Genetics was the victor at the final gavel, bidding $20,000 to bring this January 2017 JX Faria Brothers GSP {3}-ET heifer into their program.


Second high selling heifer of the sale was Ahlem Kwynn Paula 49791, from Ahlem Farms Partnership, Hilmar, Ca. Sired by CDF Karbala Kwynn, this September 2016 heifer from the deep “Paula” family at AFP had a final bid of $12,400 when the gavel fell. ST Genetics won the bidding. 

 

Lot 16, JX Pine Hill Prop Joe Jabba {4}, from Lindsays Pine Hill Jersey Farm in New Waterford, Ohio, was third high seller. This  JX Faria Brothers Prop Joe {3}-ET daughter fetched a final price of $7500 on the auction, with ST Genetics as the final bidder.


This National Heifer Sale Series supports the National Jersey Youth Fund, with 10% of every consignment being donated to the fund. The 2017 sale had 57 consignments from 55 consignors from about 18 different states. Craig Rhein and Mark Gardner were this year’s sale chairmen, and JMS would like to thank them for their contributions and support.
