A fun, eventful Pot O’Gold sale was held this evening, for Junior Jersey Breeders to buy production based heifers to start or expand their herds at home. Any youth, between the ages of 7 and 20 at the start of this year, were able to buy, entering in the contest. 17% of the gross sales will be set aside in a Pot O’Gold Fund, providing cash awards for the owners of 22 calves that complete the highest records ranked by total product value.
32 head were sold in this year’s sale, for an average of $4606.25.
The top-selling heifer was $12,500.
POG LOT 17 – SCHIRM PLUS SATURN was the top-selling lot in the Pot O’Gold sale. The November 2013 heifer has a GJPI of +247 and is sired by Sweetie Plus Iatola Bold, 1JE711. She was serviced to Schultz Volcano Harris, 29JE3866. Paul Schirm, West Salem, OH was the consignor and McCallister Russell, Hilmar, CA was the buyer.POG LOT 25 – JCJ MARVEL 29587 brought $7000 to be the second high selling POG Lot in the sale. The December 2013 All Lynns Valentino Marvel, 11JE1118 daughter has a GJPI of +216 and a GJUI of +8.01. She sold to Lowell Chamberlain of Wyoming, NY and was consigned by James Ahlem, Hilmar, CA.Third high selling POG lot was LOT 4 – KILGUS SAMPSON MARLA. Chase Bachelor, Angola, IN purchased the DP Valentino Sampson, 14JE576 daughter for $6,100 from Trent Kilgus, Fairbury, IL. The September 2013 heifer has a GJPI of +140 and is bred to calve in June with a BW Metalica-ET, 7JE1251 calf.

The Prairieland Fall Production Sale was small in size, great in quality and hot in bidding.
The 54 head sale sold for an average of $2,480.56 ! Bidding was strong and fast, with buyers coming from IA, IL, KS, NE, and WI on the milk cows, dry cows, third trimester heifers and two baby calves.
LOT 51 – HEI-BRI BOMBER NAOMI – consigned by Brian and Heidi Lantzky and Family, Hawkeye, Iowa brought $3,600 to be the top-selling lot of the sale. The 2-Year-Old WF Brook Bomber, 76JE119, daughter was fresh in September, 2014 and made 76#M on her September test. James Martin of Lime Springs, Iowa was the buyer. He purchased four of his first Jersey cows today!LOT 54 – HEI-BRI IATOLA ISIT – Consigned by Brian and Heidi Lantzky, was the second high lot of the day, selling to Wakker Dairy, Kewaunee, Wis., for $3,300.
Omro Dairy, LLC, from Omro, Wis., was the volume buyer for the day with 11 head.

The day outside varied from sunny to spitting icy rain, and windy all day…but inside the cattle coliseum at the Wayne County Fairgrounds, in Wooster, Ohio the company was friendly and the bidding was hot.
137 head of milk cows, bred and open heifers, a couple of hour old calf and a 10-month-old bull sold for an overall sale average of $2,151.28.
OAKHAVEN LEGAL MAID, VG-82% sold as Lot 113. She is due with a Heartland Merchant Topeka calf in mid-November and ranks on the Top 1.5% GJPI Cow list in (10/2014). “Maid” was consigned by Justin Lemmermen and Oakhaven Jerseys of Galloway, Ohio and was sold to Zeinstra Farms, LLC in Shelbyville MI for $3,500. This was the top-selling lot in the Ohio Fall Production Sale.
Following behind, in the second high seller slot, was Lot 23 – Ohio Amity Louie 140 from The Ohio State University, Columbus, Ohio. David Wenger, Dayton, Va., purchased the third trimester heifer for $2,950. Next in the top line-up was Lot 32 from Thomas Noyes and Family, Wooster, Ohio. She sold to Trent Neuenschwander, Dalton, Ohio for $2,900. Cantendo Legal Marquee was recently fresh with her third calf.
Adrie Vanderjagt was the volume buyer of the day, with 37 head making their way to Sulphur Springs, Texas. Buyers were from six states, including IN, MI, OH, PA, TX, VA.
